A Pinot Grigio to Enjoy
more flavour than your average pinot grigio
Pinot Grigio can be a great refreshing white wine to enjoy at friday afternoon drinks, especially as an alternative to Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay. The trick, however, is finding a Pinot Grigio that is not out of balance. Many Pinot Grigio and especially Pinot Gris suffers from too much alcohol and not enough flavour to match.
This wine in particular impressed me because in the past I have tasted many Pinot Grigios with little aroma or flavour. The Oakridge 'Over the Shoulder' is an exception; it has nice aromatics without being overpowering. It has great length of flavour but in a lower-alcohol style, which means it has more balance.
Priced at under $20, it delivers more than the average Pinot Grigio as a refreshing, easy drinking white with character.
Well regarded by the critics
Don't just take my word for it - here's just one of the reviews of this wine:
"It sees a bit of new oak but you’d barely notice. Strong apple and lime leaf flavours with runs of spice and chalk. There’s a subtle smoky, oak-spiciness thing going on here though it’s so subtle we’re almost into power-of-suggestion territory. Apple flavours are both of the Granny Smith and red apple variety; the former adding a tart, refreshing crunchiness and the latter a pretty, more perfumed aspect. In any case it all combines to work a treat. Go forth and enjoy."

"The autumnal fruits are bright while the texture boasts a skinsy detail and lees-derived smoky complexity, all belying the modest price."
